Over the last few month, the John D.V. Salvador Foundation explored how to most efficiently support Don Bosco's College for Agriculture in Legaspi, on the most southern tip of Luzon. At a distance of 470 km or 10 hours by car, the capital Manila is far away. It turned out that large, multifunctional TV screens were the best solution.
The new TVs arrived a month ago and are ideal for text book teaching, power point presentations and interactive learning.
For future agriculture engineers and farmer an impressive body of digital content already exists in the Philippines. It can now be made available to the students. Using existing material also allows the teachers to focus on student development rather than creating a new curriculum.
It also allows students to directly present their work without having to print the material
Installation of the new TV Screens was less straight forward than one assumed. Power supply in the Philippines is not steady and reliable. Voltage regulators were necessary to make sure the new screens do not fry when power surges occur.
To keep costs low, the collegue students made their own TV frames in one of the workshops where they are tought welding and repairing tools
The final product is class room ready
